Get the Gossip; Butterfinger Cake, Mixing Lipsticks and more...

Hey everyone! Its time for this weeks 'Get the Gossip'. Here are the best things that I have found this very week;

Doesn't this recipe for Butterfinger Cake look delicious! It also looks really simple to make, especially since you don't even need to bake it.The image is from here. I think that this cake would be really nice for a summer dinner party because it is a chilled desert, not a hot pudding, which is more wintry. However, I'm sure that this cake would be delicious any time of the year.

I didn't really find this on the internet, but it was so weird that I knew I just had to share it. Basically, the other day some friends and I were cooking marshmallows over a barbecue, and we had some spare marshmallows, so I decided to put one in the microwave. Well, I really wasn't expecting the marshmallows to blow up like a balloon! it literally grew to triple the size! It was so weird and unexpected, I can't believe that I had never done it before! You have to try it.

Here is an interesting article on how to mix lipsticks to create a new shade that's perfect for you. this trick could come in perfect handy if you want to buy a new lipstick, but it's a little pricy. You could just blend the colours that you have already to create a new shade.

And lastly, here is something which has been anticipated for four years! The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London! Living close to London, the Olympics is definitely not looking so hot right now, especially with all of the terrorist threats and tube disruptions. However, I am really excited to see what Great Britain does for the opening ceremony,  particularly when the Beijing ceremony was so incredible! I will keep you updated on what I thought to the opening ceremony later in the week.

Have a great weekend!

Work Experience

This year, at the school which I attend, we had he chance to go on a work placement, therefore being allowed off school in order to gain 'work experience'. I chose to do my work experience in a formal and fancy dress shop situated close to wear I live.

Can i just say, to anyone considering doing work experience, it has been very valuable to me. Doing my work experiance at this shop has really taught me that (a) i never wish to work in a shop- there is a heck of a lot of pressing of endless amounts of ties, waistcoats and cravats, and  (b) to work really hard and pursue what i really want to be. Some of the other employees have told me about what they wanted to be, and i think that i will try my best to achieve my dream; my career aspirations are currently at freelance fashion journalist, and author.

I know in our lives we all go through endless'dream jobs', and we will change our minds depending on the opportunities that present themselves to us, however gaining some experiance in a place of work is a great first step. It also looks pretty great to future employers if it's on your CV, as well!

If having some work experience is on your agenda this summer, I wish you a hearty good luck- you'll have a great time! Just take everything as a lesson, and you will learn and experience so much.

Get the Gossip; Bookcases, Birthdays and more...

Hey guys- how is your week going so far? Cant wait 'till the weekend! Here are my favourite things from this last month;

Okay- here's number 1: HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAZEL! I love you, have a great day! I hope you like my present- you better! hehe. I am really happy that you are in my life- even though its not like you had a choice! LOL
(readers, if you don't understand, don't worry)

Next- I got a bookcase! I am super excited about this! I have wanted a bookcase for ages. I do have a shelf on my family bookcase, but my books had started to overflow, so i really wanted one for myself. It's white wood, like the rest of my bedroom furniture- and it has three large shelves; It's perfect!! My books look so great in my new bookcase- in colour order, of course! The bookcase is from Argos, and cost £21.99, so it was very inexpensive.It may look cheap and nasty, but it feels sturdy, and it looks better in person- trust me!  We'll see how it wears.

Don't these Brownies with Coconut Frosting look delicious?! I should try and make them- i think it would be really fun, and tasty!

And lastly; here are some tips for how to be happy, from here
(i thought this was really cute!)

Have a GREAT week!!

Recent Reads; Book Reviews

Hey guys! Today, I thought that I would review a few books that I have read in the past few weeks. Here they are;

Divergent and Insurgent, by Veronica Roth are in a trilogy(the third book is still unwritten) which I love. I read these books within a few days of having them, I couldn't put them down! The story tells us the initiation process into a 'dauntless' group in society through the eyes of Beatrice Prior. I like that the book is written in present tense, first person view of the protagonist. It really made me feel like I was her, and it was happening to me. I also liked the originality of storyline, and the love interest between her and another character. Insurgent is a great sequel, but a lot more blood-thirsty than Divergent. The twists in the plot were really unexpected and it's safe to say that I loved these books. I also love the fact that the cover is holographic. My amazing new camera(!) picked up on the rainbow that the holographic cover created.

Delirium was interesting. The book is about a society that is sure that love is a disease, and put everyone though a procedure once they're 18, to remove the capacity to love. Obviously, the main girl has to go and fall inlove just weeks before her operation- thus the main plotline. Lauren Oliver, the author, did a great job creating the feeling that love is a disease, and to be honest, if i was in that society then I would believe it too. However, I was really dissapointed with how this book ended. I dont want to give too much away, but it was a shock, and I am not sure whether I will enjoy the sequel not that this development has taken place. All in all a great book though, I do reccomend.

If I'm being totally honest, Eve, by Anna Carey, was a major disappointment. After reading so many positive reviews of the book, I decided to get it for myself, but my view of it really doesn't match other reviews that I have read. For me, although the storyline was good, the characters developed too fast, and there was little explanation for changes in the scenery or plot. The plot itself is similar to that of The Handmaids Tale, and follows Eve as she escapes from her school after she learns that it's sole purpose is to raise women to reproduce and create a population after a mass death. This book just really didn't click for me.

The Maze Runner was a good read. It was such a crazy scenario that it really shocked me when i realized that i had started  to believe the story. Basically, boys had been stuck on the inside of a maze for 2 years, trying to get out. Then Thomas arrives, and their entire existaence is threatened. I dont want to guive too much away, buit this book had me on edge, and wanting to turn each page before i'd even read it, in order to find out what was happening. There is also a suprise on thevery last page which really shocked mje, and sets you up for the sequels, The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure. good job James Dashner!

Lament by Maggie Steifvater was alright. I think that i wasso excited to read this, and i got really dissapointed when it didn't quite meet my expectations. I really enjoyed one of her other series': The Wolves of Mercy Falls series, Shiver, Linger and Forever, and i was hoping these books would be just as good. The book is about a girl who attracts faeries aand falls in love with one. There are a few twists, but basically- the plot was boring. I wanted more. I wanted development, not just a story. I also own the sequel to this book, named Ballad. I havent read it yet- but i will. I just hope it is better than Lament.

If you do happen to read any of these books which I have reviewed, make sure to leave me a comment telling me if you enjoyed them or not. I would love to know. (photos werre taken by moi)

My Favourite Ever Music Video

Hey everyone- today I wanted to share with you my favourite music video. Ever.

As I have said before- I'm sorta obsessed with Taylor Swift, so is it really a surprise that my favourite ever music video is one of hers?

The video in question- You Belong With Me- actually won an MTV award, but then Kayne West ruined it all. . . Anyway- this is my favourite music video for about three reasons.

One; Lucas Till is freaking HOT! He looks gorgeous in this video. What's not to love?

Two; I am such a hopeless romantic, and this video is the perfect love story. I just adore it! Me and my sister were watching it, and we couldn't help but 'aww' at the end!

Three; Without giving too much away about the video, for those ho haven't seen it, the 'I love you' notebook pages are just the perfect ribbon to tie up the perfect video. Watch the video and you'll see what I mean.

I just wish that this video was real life!

What is your favourite ever music video?

Hopeless Romantic

Hey everyone!

Today I am confessing something. It's nothing bad... I'm a hopeless romantic. I think maybe I should be in one of those classes: "I'm Jenny and I'm a hopeless romantic" "hi Jenny"... You know the kind?

I guess you will be asking how I am so sure of this, and what it even means, well, here goes;

Hopeless romantic - noun;

This person is in love with love. They believe in fairytales and love. All hopeless romantics are idealistic, they're sentimental dreamers, they're imaginative, and they're fanciful when you get to know them.

They make love look like an art form with all the romantic things they will do for their special someone. A hopeless romantic dreams of who they will spend the rest of their life with. They want to be romanced with sweet simple things and thoughtful amazing. They are hopelessly in live with being loved and loving back.

No joke guys... This sounds exactly like me! I am totally a hopeless romantic! I fall in love with characters from books for goodness sake. How could this not be me?

Are you a hopeless romantic?

Everyday is Tunes'day; Natasha Bedingfield

Hey you guys! How are you, I have had such a crazy week, what wiht an exam right in the middle of it! It went well, by the way.

So, i was thinking, much like i was yesterday about the weekly post sort of thing and such, and i decided that it would be a good thing if you guys were expecting a post everyday on a certain day- plus it would give me an incentive to write posts!

Let me pitch the idea to you right now- "Everyday is Tunes'day"- What do you think!? i would merely upload a song that had been going through my head, whether good or bad, old or new, just one that i cannot seem to get out of my head. Pastel Roses

Hello everyone, how are you doing today? Great? That's good

After seeing this photo of these adorable cakes, it reminded me immediately of this cute manicure picture that I had seen. I quickly found the manicure image that I was looking for, and the cakes match the manicure perfectly, don't you think? The colour palette and designs, especially of the roses, are practically the same.

I am planning on re-creating the nail look later on in the summer, because I think that it would look really pretty when it's sunny and we are all in our summer clothes! I also really want to try and ice some cupcakes like this, perhaps for my friends' birthday.

Any how, I'm sure it will take me ages to figure out how to do the nails and the cakes, but if I do manage it, I won't hesitate to show you guys a picture! likewise, if you have a go, please leave a picture in the comments, I would love to see it!
Have a fabby day,

Get the Gossip; Hidden messages, vampires and more...

Hey guys, lots to chat about today! In the last week a few interesting things have pooped up during the week, on the Internet and in my life. Here they are;

You may not know this, but I am a MAJOR Taylor Swift fan- I love her! An her music, obviously. The other day I found this article about hidden messages in her album booklet telling the story about some of her songs. It was really cool and interesting to decode these secrets- I am not clever enough to have worked it out on my own! Hehe! The article is here.

And not to seem obsessed with Taylor Swift, but was she not the best dressed at the Billboard Awards on Sunday? I thought she was! I didn't think much to Miley Cyrus' 'Blazer-with-no-bra' ensemble though(you can see on the link). Taylor was wearing a floor length red chiffon Ellie Saab gown. I love her make-up too, not her signature red lip, but pretty nonetheless. Here is a picture ;

Aren't these baby elephants so cute? I adore them! I live their fluffy skin and adorable eyes- too cute! Did you know that a baby elephant is called a calf? Here is the where i got the photo.

Lastly, and what I'm most excited about- the Breaking Dawn Part 2 Trailer was released On Wednesday! Eeeek! It looks sooo good- are you as excited as i am? Only 5 months to go, yay. not. I want to watch it right now! Hehe
This is the trailer;

Have a great week, Jenny xx

Midweek Photography; Week 3

How are y'all today? Today's photos are really cute- the roses are so pretty and romantic, and the drawing is so good, I really want to try and replicate it someday. Which one do you like?

Midweek Photography; Week 1

Hi everyone, how are you?

How would you feel about me maybe doing a weekly blog post on a specific day. I have seen them on other peoples blogs, and I definitely like the idea of someone going on my site just to look at a weekly column.

I really want to do this as a midweek thing, so I think that I will write a post to be uploaded every Thursday for you guys to see. And for those of you wondering why Thursday is my midweek, it's simple. There are seven days in a week, therefore three day before and after the fourth(middle) day. My week starts on a Monday, making that the 1st day, and Thursday the fourth.

So, that's put of the way, now onto topic. I think that I will write my weekly post about a picture that I have liked during the week. Or two. Yeah, that sounds alright. Ok, officially I am going to write a post to be uploaded every Thursday(except if I'm on holiday or anything like that), about my two favourite pictures of the week. Does that sound cool?

P.S, just on a side note, i thought i would mantion my best friend- as she has confessed that she is a dedicated reader of my blog, which is really nice of her! Thanks Leyan, love you ! xx

I think that I will start right now, actually.

Here is my photo roundup for this week. Don't you love the bubbles!? I do.

Recent Read; Eat Pray Love Review

Hi everyone!

Last week I started to read the book Eat Pray Love, and absolutely LOVED it!

The books is actually a work of non-fiction, which is was surprised by when I started to read it. The book is a memoir of a year of travelling in Italy, India and Indonesia, by Elizabeth Gilbert. The way that this book is written is so mesmerising to me. It provides you with so much general knowledge, and it even taught me a little Italian.

Eat Pray Love is split into three sections for the three different places which Elizabeth Gilbert visited. In Italy she indulges herself, in India she visits an Ashram for salvation and in Indonesia she begins to heal her broken heart.

This book also has a lot of talk of spirituality, so if you like that sort of thing, then you will love this book. However, for me, as an atheist, I found the religious content of the book really interesting.

It certainly took me a good few days to read, as this book is quite long- which may be a turn-off for some. Although, in my opinion, Eat Pray Love is totally worth it. This book is very entertaining- nice work Elizabeth Gilbert! Plus, this book was clearly good enough to be made into a hit film- therefore i must be right, Eat Pray Love is great!

A great read for anyone looking for something with a little more depth than your average ditsy romance novel(but not dissing them- I love them!). I highly recommend it.

Punny Nail Varnish Names

Hi everyone!

I don't know if you can tell, but I am a ginormous nail polish addict. I have spent more money on nail varnish than any other beauty product, and have probably collected about 70 colours. I know, intense right? Well, I say: it could be worse, at least I'm not addicted to drugs! Anyway, one of the things which really catches my attention in a nail polish, obviously besides the colour, is the name.

I really enjoy reading cute names, or ones with puns in them. It makes me smile when I read them- just a small detail to amuse me. It is clearly not enough these days to name your product '83791' or 'purple'- we need to get creative!

Here are some of my favourites with the brand and a description included:

OPI has a sandy beige nail lacquer, mixed with a fairytale element, creating the pun 'Sand-erella' derived from Cinderella. Cute!

'Did you 'ear about Van Gogh' by OPI is very amusing to me. I truly do appreciate a good pun (if you don't get it- google it!).

Butter London's 'No More Waity Katy' is not a pun as such, but just a funny comment. As this nail varnish was released around the time of the royal engagement and wedding, the colour is named after the fact that Kate Middleton is now officially in the royal clan! I just thought that it was a cute tribute to the couple.

OPI's 'Iris I was Thinner' is a rich, beautiful, iris purple colour. The name is so funny, don't you think? I really do Iris I was thinner.

And my personal favourite: 'Steel-Her Heart'. This Revlon nail varnish just has the cutest name ever! It is a grey, metallic colour with lost of dimension, If you know what I mean.everytime I read this, it makes me smile. The name is just sooo adorable!

Do you have a favourite nail polish name?

What's in my Summer Bag?

Hey guys! How is you summer going so far?

It is really hot and sunny where I live at the moment, and the fact that it will be summer in about 1 week (the start of June) is getting obvious. I have been wearing dresses without tights, an putting on my room fan when I'm at home; I has really been hot! Anyway today I thought I would show you what is in my bag for summer this year...

Okay, so first is the bag. It isn't a bag a such, but more of a basket. It is super cute though! The bag is from Primark(I know, I'm a cheapskate) and it is basically like a wicker briefcase with a long brown strap. It really does look nicer than in person than my description.

Next comes a few essentials, my phone, a hairband, some chewing gum (spearmint, but I'm not fussy) and my sunglasses (tortoiseshell and rectangular). Very basic, but necessary items.

Moving swiftly on, I also have my purse. Kind of my pride and joy, I love my purse a lot. It is a leather Jack Wills wallet-type-thing embossed with their logo. The inside is cute too, it's lined with their signature navy and baby pink stripes.

An essential for summer which I often forget, is sunscreen. I try to have a small bottle of SPF 15 (it doesn't get THAT hot!) with me in my summer bag.

I also like to have a few beauty items in my bag for touch-ups throughout the day. Right now, I am using NYC lip-stain pen in Persistent Pink and Benefit Bag Gal Plum mascara with some Vaseline as my weekend-ly routine. However, I always do my makeup before I go out.

And lastly, I depends on where I am going, but I usually carry a summer scarf with me in my bag. I got a very nice, floaty, pastel scarf recently, and I am very excited to take that out with me!

What is in your bag for summer?

Giving Back

Oxfam is a world famous organisation, compiled by 15 organisations worldwide, which have come together in over 90 countries to eradicate poverty, provide disaster relief, have advocacy, and to carry out policy research. Founded by Quakers in Oxford, Oxfam is a hard-working charity which almost seems to strengthen in adversity. Unfortunately, the hardships which burden the very core of the charity also affect millions of other Hunan beings in third world countries in our same earth. Famine is the inspiration and the cause for this fantastic charity, and a topic which they are determined to change.

Their Mission; "Working with thousands of local partner organizations, we work with people living in poverty striving to exercise their human rights, assert their dignity as full citizens and take control of their lives."

Oxfam is working worldwide to find lasting solutions to poverty and related injustice around the world. Oxfam works directly with communities and seeks to influence the powerful to ensure that poor people can improve their lives and livelihoods. They use sustainable projects which enable local people to manage their own lives, and ultimately to do so for generations to come.

Originally, my good friend and I started our volunteer work at Oxfam in an attempt to get it over and done with as part of our Duke of Edinborough Challenge. However, as the weeks progressed and I came to learn more about the fantastic work done by the charity, it had really encouraged me to want to carry on with my volunteering even after my required time expires. Furthermore, it is actually a lot more fun then you would expect, and I normally have a great time each week, sorting through donations, serving customers and just having fun with my friend and co-volunteerers.

You may be wondering what all this has to do with YOU? Well, the answer is, everything. If you feel that you want to help the world, even just a little, don't hesitate to go into your local Oxfam branch and collect an application form.

And let me tell you, it does feel really good to know that even because of your small action, you have helped at least one person in our world. It really does.

Jenny xx

By no means am I trying to advertise the Oxfam charity, I merely think that it is an admirable charity which you should know about.

Kissed in the Rain

I have probably mentioned this before, but haven't we all just wanted to be kissed in the rain?

The idea, most likely a fantasy created from an eternity listening to romantic Taylor Swift songs, or reading romance novels like they were going out of fashion, is a great one. It is always my favourite part in movies when someone gets kissed in the rain by the one they love(but not in a creepy way)! As a hopeless romantic, I really wish that someday it will be me with my prince charming...

The whole concept just appeals to me so much. It's magical. Ahh, my heart is to romantic for my era - does anyone even go on dates anymore? I truly believe that to be 'going out with someone' you have to have one on at least one date. Does this plus the rain thing make me an eternal optimist in a lazy society, or a hopeless romantic wanting a happy ending?

Have you ever wanted to be kissed in the rain?
