Weekend Manicure; Moody Mink Look & Review

So the other day I picked up a new nail varnish- kind of a spur of the moment thing, because I really don't need to be buying anymore nail varnish, but oh well. And to justify my unnecessary spending, I thought that I would write a post for you guys about it.

Please excuse the state of my nails in these photographs- they have recently started breaking really badly, and I just can't seem to leave them alone- any tips?

The nail varnish that I 'splurged' on was, in fact, carrying a mere £1 price tag. It is by MUA, a Superdrug own brand make up line that sells dirt cheap and remarkably good products. I bought the shade Moody Mink. It is a beautiful colour, but so hard to describe. I would say that it was a neutral taupe-y mauve, but that sounds disgusting! It looks really nice on the nails; it stands out, but at the same time, is neutral. I would class this as the perfect colour if you we're going to work or school, and bright colours are looked down upon. However, you could probably dress up this colour with a little glitter topcoat- I think a gold glitter would work really nicely.

For my manicure I simply painted two coats of Moody Mink, and had my ring finger as an accent nail. Having an accent nail is a really easy way to jazz up a plain manicure, and can look great with similar colours or contrasting ones! For the accent nail I used a Claire's Accessories nail polish.

This look is so budget, but still manages to look sophisticated and glamourous!

What do you think?

How To; Galaxy Nails

Today is a  very exciting day- it might snow! I know that it is a common perception that every Christmas in England is a snowy white one, but I have only had one white Christmas in my life. However, it looks like it's going to be a snowy January 18th, so I'll keep you posted on that. Also, check out this girl on YouTube- she has only just started making songs, but is just fifteen, and really good.

Random fact; I love the stars. It makes me really sad that city and town lights block out the lights of the stars, so you can't see them shine. I recently saw a picture of 'galaxy' style nails, and immediately started trying to re-create them. Here is my tutorial of how I did it.
The final product

To get galaxy nails, I painted a base and then added to it layer by layer of colour, with a dry, clean sponge(make-up, or cleaning).
1.  Paint your nails with a base coat.
2. Paint two coats of your favourite deep navy or black polish. I used a navy creme colour, but a shimmer navy would look gorgeous too.
3. Dab a thin, random pattern of white polish over the top of the blue.
4.  Dab light pink over the blue and white.
5. Dab a layer of shimmer purple polish down the center of the nail.
6. Lastly, dab some silver glitter all over the nail, to recreate the millions of stars in the sky.
Finish with a  super shiny top coat.

I was feeling very lazy when I pained this nail, so I only did one; my index finger on each hand. I painted the rest of my nails with a bright candy pink colour, which really complemented the slight pink swirl on the starry nail.
Would you try astronomy nails?

New Year Glitter Nail

I cannot fathom the fact that we are in a different year to the one that we were in a coupe of hours ago. It's a crazy thought. I want to wish all of you, my gorgeous readers, a very happy new year. I truly hope that 2013 is great for you, and everything turns out amazingly in your life in this coming year.

I actually welcomed the new year with the crowds in London. It really was incredible to party with 200,000 people to ring in the new year! What did you guys do to celebrate the new year?

On a more jovial note, as it is New Years Day, I thought that I would show you guys what I wore on my nails on New Years Eve. I painted my nails with a bright but dark(if you know what I mean) fuchsia with a glitter ombre effect. The pink polish is a Maybelline one in Pink Orchid, and the glitter polish is Barry M's amethyst glitter. The glitter ombre effect is SO easy to do, but if you need a little help, this blog is very useful. Here it is, my New Years Eve/Day ombre glitter nail;

 Did you have a nice New Year? What have you got planned to make this year special!
I wish you all a happy and healthy new year!

Clothes Show Live 2012; Part 2

As I mentioned in my last post, on Tuesday I went to the CLothes Show live and picked up a few items. All of them are beauty related, and they came from various 'goody bags' that companies had put together. Most of the goody bags were comprised of that companies products, or samples, and I thought that you guys might want to see them! I literally went with £20 in my pocket, and I got so much stuff- I was laden with bags. I wish I had taken a bit more, but I am pleased with what I bought, especially when you consider how much I would have spent if I had paid full price for everything in a shop. Reviews of my favourite/least favourite products are likely to follow in a subsequent post.

Here is what I bought, bearing in mind that I only spent £20;

When we left the Clothes Show Live, we got given a FREE goody-bag, and it contained lots of samples.
-I got a Lady Gaga Fame perfume sample
-A Colgate whitening toothpaste sample tube
-A small tube of Dove conditioner
-And two samples of Britney Spears perfume.
-I also got a Bounty bar, but I ate it...

My Revlon Nail Polish Collection

I noticed the other day, upon purchasing a new Revlon nail polish(it was Royal, in case you're interested) , that I have accumulated quite a large collection of nail polishes from one particular brand. So, with out further ado, here are my Revlon nail polishes.

Barry M 'Amythest Glitter' Review

Hi guys! So, the other day I purchased a new nail varnish. I know, shocker! But I have so many nail varnishes, I kind said to myself that I wouldn't buy anymore for a while. Anyway, so I was in my town centre, and there is a lot of shops doing the whole '3 for 2' thing right now, so I originally said that I would buy three, and I would really be saving myself money! But then I realised that I didn't really need three more nail polishes, so I just went with my favourite. So, with that ramble over, I guess I should start the review now!

Get the Gossip; Common Birthdays, DIY Fonts, How To Contour

Hi guys! How are you all today? This week I have found some pretty awesome things online which I'd like to share.  Here they are;

So, I've always wondered, on my birthday, how many other people are celebrating their birthday at the same time. Apparently not many. To read this chart, you find your birth date on the side, and the month at the top, and follow it down until you reach the square that corresponds to how many people share your birthday. If your square is darker, then it is very common, but if it light, then your birthday is less common. Mine is a light beige colour, so I guess that not many people share my birthday with me, which is sad.

Nail Polish That I Love/Hate

Hey guys! I hope you're okay?

Today I want to share with you my favourite nail polishes, and some that I wish I had never bought. First, my favourite! My all time favourite brand to by nail varnish from is NYC (New York Colour). There nail polish is very inexpensive, ranging from 1.99 to 2.49, but the cheap price doesn't deny great choice of colours or quality of the product. However, while the quality and staying power isn't the best when compared with other, more proffessional brands, my nail polish always stays on at least three days, and they colour is shiny and smooth.

The choice of colours is fantastic, and I love they fact that most of the nail polishes are named after streets in New York. Personally, I have about six or seven NYC nail varnishes, and my favourite has to be Timeless Tangerine. This vibrant tangerine orange colour applies smoothly and always looks super glossy. I do think that they have a tendency to peel off, though maybe that's just because I pick at them. Anyway, I always finish off my nails with NYCs clear top/base coat, Grand Central Station. This literally dries in under one minute, and it leaves nails looking even more shiny than before.

Now, onto one of my least favourite nail polishes. About two years ago, at the start of my nail polish obsession (I literally have so many!), Barry M came into view. The brand has been around since the late sixties, but I believed that I had stick a gold mine when I started to buy some of their polishes. They look nice enough in the bottle, and I must admit, some of them work brilliantly, but not all. I have one colour, a pale pink called Strawberry Ice Cream, which is so frustrating to apply that I have just given up using it. The consistency is so thick and gloopy, and it takes like two hours to dry, which is really annoying.

Although I have been patient, shaken the bottle for a considerable amount of time beforehand, and even thinned it a bit with nail varnish thinner, but nothing worked. It's still as bad as ever, which is a real disappointment. Now I use the NYC Oh SoHo Sweet if I want to wear a baby pink.

These are only my opinions, if you feel differently please voice your opinion in the comments. Additionally, if you have any nail polishes that you think I should try out, or try to avoid, let me know.

Happy painting!
