DIY; Initial Journey

Hey everyone! How has your week been so far? well, it's nearly the weekend, so don't panic!

So today i wanted to share with you a really cool idea for decorating your bedroom wall, or just anywhere that needs a little funky TLC!

I found this idea here, and basically, all that you do is get a 3D letter or shape (I think that a heart would be really cute!), and cover it in a road map. You simply need to trace around a road map, maybe of your favourite place?, cut it out and glue it onto the 3D shape. And you can even put little toy cars on it, kinda like they're driving!

Shirtless!

One thing that I love about summer is that guys can take their shirts off and it be deemed socially acceptable. HEHE! But now that we are in mid-september, i guess this pic will have to do!

The Mortal Instruments Review

Hey everyone! I hope you're having a great day!

Today is supposed to be a book review, which it is, but before i get on to that... i just waned to take a minute to express my sadness as yesterday was the anniversary of the 9/11 attack. this attack really was, and still is a tragedy, and i am sincerely sorry for those of you who were personally effected by it. My thoughts are with you.

Anyway, now that the sad part is over...Today I wanted to tell you about this awesome book series which i really enjoyed reading- The Mortal Instruments. Cassandra Clare; 5 books: City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls, and one set to be released next year; City of Heavenly Fire.

These books, the latest installment was released in May of this year, really are amazing. The plot lines are so intense and unexpected- i just love it. But since it was a bit confusing to explain the whole plot (what? there are 5 books!), i thought that this summary would suffice. Its a brilliant one from here.

  A girl named Clary, supposedly typical at first, lives with her single mother. Her father for a reason her mother would never tell was just never around. Clary has one best friend, Simon and her mom's good friend Luke to whom she is close to. One day, Simon and Clary wanted to go out but Clary's mom didn't want her to for a strange reason. Plus, she kept talking to Luke in hushed tones as if they were both really worried about something.
  That same night, Clary went out anyway, even though her mom insisted for her not to,at a club with Simon, she spots 2 guys with knives attempting to kill a boy she believes is innocent. Let's not get into details, she soon finds out that her mother isn't who she thought she was and that she had hidden a lot from her daughter. Her mother is captured that same night which makes her unable to get the answers she wants. She meets people with whom she really belongs with: Shadowhunters. 
  Their job is to mainly protect humans from bad vampires or werewolves or faeries and even warlocks. There is also creatures called demons. One of the shadowhunters she meets is called Jace and they have their own little love story, but things happen and the course of true love doesn't really run smooth. In the 3rd and 4th book, Jace is in danger and his brother and sister Isabelle and Alec help Clary and her best friend Simon save him.

There is currently work happening on the sets of Hollywood, turning these fansastic books into a movie, but I think that the casting is all wrong! When i was reading the books, this is how i saw it;

Neon Lipstick;I Dare You!

Hey guys! I had a great day today- I finally got my own laptop! Its this really awesome Toshiba, which I am typing on right now! Ahh, it's so nice to have my own!

Anyway, that's not what this post is about. As the fall approaches (unfortunately), I really don't wish to be all glum because the summer has ended. Therefore, this week I wholeheartedly DARE you to wear the brightest lipstick you own!

Brighten your smile, get a super confidence boost, and extend the summer as long as you can.

Make Your Own Edible Spoons

Hey guys! I had a great day today, I hope your's was great too!

So I found this awesome idea online the other day- Edible Spoons! Basically, you make these edible spoons and then put hor d'ourves on them- and absolutely No washing up; result!

To make the spoons all you need is a slice of bread, which you flatten with a rolling pin. Then you use a spoon shaped cutter to cut out spoons from the slices of bread. Next, you place the spoon cut-outs onto actual spoons which you bake in the oven until they become crispy. By placing them on the spoons, they will be spoon shaped when they are taken out of the oven.

This nifty little invention is so perfect for when friends come over for dinner, or you want to serve up something impressive on short notice. You can buy a spoon-making set online, which includes molds and cutters, but honestly? You don't really need it. You could just use a knife to cut the spoon shape, and a normal spoon as the baking mold.

Diving

Have you ever been scuba diving?

Two years ago, in the summer of 2010, my family and I went on holiday to Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.

As our resort was literally 100metres from the beach, we had to go scuba diving. I guess you would call it snorkelling actually- we didn't have the big tanks and stuff, only a mask and flippers with a snorkel.

Sharm el Sheikh has some of the prettiest fish ever, and I kid you not, I actually saw a purple glowing fish the size of my big toe! It was too cute! But I also saw a barracuda shark, and told my younger sister. She of course freaked out, and point blank refused to enter the sea again on that holiday- eh, her loss.

Snorkelling is really cool, you should try it sometime. I just wish I bought a waterproof camera with me!

Hottest Athletes 2012

How did everyone enjoy the London Olympics?

Being on holiday for most of it, I only managed to watch a couple of hours of it with foreign commentating. However, the few events that I did watch were mostly spent oogling at the fittest athletes my sister and I could see. Hot bodies and incredible athletic talent, what more could you want? Appreciating the exellence, i like to call it... Here are the best we could find:

Pascal Behrenbruch, a decathlon competitor for Germany looks pretty fine in his competing get-up. 

Diving superstar and competitor for Team GB, Tom Daley is among the best looking of his field. Also, his teeth are just perfect, aren't they? And those Speedos...

 Kevin Mayer, of France. this decathlon athlete didn't place this year, but definitely gets commended by us for his good looks!

And lastly, American swimmer Ryan Lochte looks super fit in his speedos. His face is too cute!

ahhh, soo sweet!

Well, I hope you have enjoyed the Olympics as much as I certainly have! ahaa

Get the Gossip; Healthy Cupcakes, Fall Nail Trends, Hot Air Balloons and more...

So, how is everyone this week? Enjoying your summer? I know I am! Here are my favorite finds of the week;

Super good news for all of your american kids- Congress thinks that cupcakes are healthy?! congress wants to add cupcakes to school lunch lines, fighting against Barak Obama's pursuit to make lunches healthier. A new bill would allow any cupcake, regardless of fat content, to be counted as a vegetable, as long as it has a small sprinkling of dried greens on top of the frosting! Could this be happening in the near future, especially when the election is only 3 months away in November? Recpie for this green sprinkled 'vegetable' cupcake can be found here. 

Here's a cool idea; why don't you turn a few old beer bottles (washed out, of course) into a pretty light display? This idea simply requires you to drill a whole near the base of a beer bottle, and poke a section of fairy lights inside. then continue this into a few more beer bottles, until you have a glowing display. You could even try this idea with a more interesting bottle, for example a funky shaped port bottle, or a pretty coloured wine bottle, if you liked original the idea.

As Autumn is fast approaching, my hopefulness for an Indian summer is ever growing. However, whatever the weather, i am totally looking forward to enjoying wearing this seasons hottest colours on my nails! (Btw, I am wearing Topshop's Celestial on my nails at the moment. It is the prettiest cornflower blue, and the quality is great too!) So this fall deep, luxurious purples, striking neutrals are whats hot. My pick for purples is definitely OPI's Midnight in Moscow, a rich plum, and for neutrals it would have to be L'oreal Paris' Opera Ballerina (101), the sweetest baby pink ever! Photo from here.

And lastly, Here is a photo which i found on weheartit(love that website!). I just think that this photo is so beautiful- i would love to fly in a hot air balloon! Ahhh i love it so much!

MIA

Hey guys, just a quick update on whats been happening in my life, and why i've been totally MIA for three weeks!

For the last two weeks i have been on vacation, and since i have been back my PC went completely spazzo and died every time i turned it on. So, we got a new one, but it hasn't been set up yet. Also, my iPod deleted the blogger app, so here i am, forced to write to you guys from my sisters laptop. I know, excuses excuses.

Oh, and also I wanted to say that i dyed my hair pink! well, just the ends, but still.


So, i just wanted to say that i haven't abandoned you- I'm still here! The posts are coming again!

Cold Shower?

Ever thought about taking a cold shower? I love the refreshing feeling of a cold shower when you've been in the sun all day, but at 7.30 in the morning when you're running late for school, not so much!

Actually here are some great reasons why taking a cold shower is actually beneficial to you, and your health!

1. Cold showers can actually improve your immunity against infection and cancer! The cold water can crank up your metabolism to get your body working twice as well!

2. Cold showers can actually help to reduce stress by regulating your nervous system. So if you're worried about a test in school, or a first date- cool off with a cold shower!

3. Taking a cold shower can actually help with insomnia, and it's important to get a good nights sleep.

4. The cold water from the showers will make the cuticles in your hair tighten, leaving your hair shiny and smooth. this also prevents dirt from gathering at the roots of your hair, meaning your hair will grow thicker, stronger and cleaner! At the end of all of my showers, I turn the heat down and do a final rinse of my hair in cold water for that very reason. I always want my hair looking shiny and healthy.

5. Having a cold shower on a morning when you just cant seem to wake your head up is a great way to start the day! The cool temperature will make you more alert and feeling ready to tackle the day!

6. Cold temperatures also make pores tighter, which prevents out skin from getting clogged up with dirt and grime- yuck! in turn, the chances of developing blemishes and acne are reduced!

7. And lastly... Cold showers help our skin to remain youthful as the temperature actually gives your body a detox, helping our skin to get rid of toxins.

Will you be taking cold showers more often now? I know I will!

Get the Gossip; Butterfinger Cake, Mixing Lipsticks and more...

Hey everyone! Its time for this weeks 'Get the Gossip'. Here are the best things that I have found this very week;

Doesn't this recipe for Butterfinger Cake look delicious! It also looks really simple to make, especially since you don't even need to bake it.The image is from here. I think that this cake would be really nice for a summer dinner party because it is a chilled desert, not a hot pudding, which is more wintry. However, I'm sure that this cake would be delicious any time of the year.























I didn't really find this on the internet, but it was so weird that I knew I just had to share it. Basically, the other day some friends and I were cooking marshmallows over a barbecue, and we had some spare marshmallows, so I decided to put one in the microwave. Well, I really wasn't expecting the marshmallows to blow up like a balloon! it literally grew to triple the size! It was so weird and unexpected, I can't believe that I had never done it before! You have to try it.

Here is an interesting article on how to mix lipsticks to create a new shade that's perfect for you. this trick could come in perfect handy if you want to buy a new lipstick, but it's a little pricy. You could just blend the colours that you have already to create a new shade. 

And lastly, here is something which has been anticipated for four years! The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London! Living close to London, the Olympics is definitely not looking so hot right now, especially with all of the terrorist threats and tube disruptions. However, I am really excited to see what Great Britain does for the opening ceremony,  particularly when the Beijing ceremony was so incredible! I will keep you updated on what I thought to the opening ceremony later in the week.

Work Experience

This year, at the school which I attend, we had he chance to go on a work placement, therefore being allowed off school in order to gain 'work experience'. I chose to do my work experience in a formal and fancy dress shop situated close to wear I live.

Can i just say, to anyone considering doing work experience, it has been very valuable to me. Doing my work experiance at this shop has really taught me that (a) i never wish to work in a shop- there is a heck of a lot of pressing of endless amounts of ties, waistcoats and cravats, and  (b) to work really hard and pursue what i really want to be. Some of the other employees have told me about what they wanted to be, and i think that i will try my best to achieve my dream; my career aspirations are currently at freelance fashion journalist, and author.

I know in our lives we all go through endless'dream jobs', and we will change our minds depending on the opportunities that present themselves to us, however gaining some experiance in a place of work is a great first step. It also looks pretty great to future employers if it's on your CV, as well!

If having some work experience is on your agenda this summer, I wish you a hearty good luck- you'll have a great time! Just take everything as a lesson, and you will learn and experience so much.

Get the Gossip; Bookcases, Birthdays and more...

Hey guys- how is your week going so far? Cant wait 'till the weekend! Here are my favourite things from this last month;

Okay- here's number 1: HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAZEL! I love you, have a great day! I hope you like my present- you better! hehe. I am really happy that you are in my life- even though its not like you had a choice! LOL
(readers, if you don't understand, don't worry)

Next- I got a bookcase! I am super excited about this! I have wanted a bookcase for ages. I do have a shelf on my family bookcase, but my books had started to overflow, so i really wanted one for myself. It's white wood, like the rest of my bedroom furniture- and it has three large shelves; It's perfect!! My books look so great in my new bookcase- in colour order, of course! The bookcase is from Argos, and cost £21.99, so it was very inexpensive.It may look cheap and nasty, but it feels sturdy, and it looks better in person- trust me!  We'll see how it wears.

Don't these Brownies with Coconut Frosting look delicious?! I should try and make them- i think it would be really fun, and tasty!

Recent Reads; Book Reviews

Hey guys! Today, I thought that I would review a few books that I have read in the past few weeks. Here they are;

Divergent and Insurgent, by Veronica Roth are in a trilogy(the third book is still unwritten) which I love. I read these books within a few days of having them, I couldn't put them down! The story tells us the initiation process into a 'dauntless' group in society through the eyes of Beatrice Prior. I like that the book is written in present tense, first person view of the protagonist. It really made me feel like I was her, and it was happening to me. I also liked the originality of storyline, and the love interest between her and another character. Insurgent is a great sequel, but a lot more blood-thirsty than Divergent. The twists in the plot were really unexpected and it's safe to say that I loved these books. I also love the fact that the cover is holographic. My amazing new camera(!) picked up on the rainbow that the holographic cover created.

Delirium was interesting. The book is about a society that is sure that love is a disease, and put everyone though a procedure once they're 18, to remove the capacity to love. Obviously, the main girl has to go and fall inlove just weeks before her operation- thus the main plotline. Lauren Oliver, the author, did a great job creating the feeling that love is a disease, and to be honest, if i was in that society then I would believe it too. However, I was really dissapointed with how this book ended. I dont want to give too much away, but it was a shock, and I am not sure whether I will enjoy the sequel not that this development has taken place. All in all a great book though, I do reccomend.

If I'm being totally honest, Eve, by Anna Carey, was a major disappointment. After reading so many positive reviews of the book, I decided to get it for myself, but my view of it really doesn't match other reviews that I have read. For me, although the storyline was good, the characters developed too fast, and there was little explanation for changes in the scenery or plot. The plot itself is similar to that of The Handmaids Tale, and follows Eve as she escapes from her school after she learns that it's sole purpose is to raise women to reproduce and create a population after a mass death. This book just really didn't click for me.

The Maze Runner was a good read. It was such a crazy scenario that it really shocked me when i realized that i had started  to believe the story. Basically, boys had been stuck on the inside of a maze for 2 years, trying to get out. Then Thomas arrives, and their entire existaence is threatened. I dont want to guive too much away, buit this book had me on edge, and wanting to turn each page before i'd even read it, in order to find out what was happening. There is also a suprise on thevery last page which really shocked mje, and sets you up for the sequels, The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure. good job James Dashner!

Lament by Maggie Steifvater was alright. I think that i wasso excited to read this, and i got really dissapointed when it didn't quite meet my expectations. I really enjoyed one of her other series': The Wolves of Mercy Falls series, Shiver, Linger and Forever, and i was hoping these books would be just as good. The book is about a girl who attracts faeries aand falls in love with one. There are a few twists, but basically- the plot was boring. I wanted more. I wanted development, not just a story. I also own the sequel to this book, named Ballad. I havent read it yet- but i will. I just hope it is better than Lament.

My Favourite Ever Music Video

Hey everyone- today I wanted to share with you my favourite music video. Ever.

As I have said before- I'm sorta obsessed with Taylor Swift, so is it really a surprise that my favourite ever music video is one of hers?

The video in question- You Belong With Me- actually won an MTV award, but then Kayne West ruined it all. . . Anyway- this is my favourite music video for about three reasons.

One; Lucas Till is freaking HOT! He looks gorgeous in this video. What's not to love?

Two; I am such a hopeless romantic, and this video is the perfect love story. I just adore it! Me and my sister were watching it, and we couldn't help but 'aww' at the end!

Three; Without giving too much away about the video, for those ho haven't seen it, the 'I love you' notebook pages are just the perfect ribbon to tie up the perfect video. Watch the video and you'll see what I mean.

I just wish that this video was real life!
